International Championship: Wu Yizi defeats Judd Trump to reach the quarter-finals

Trump had a mixed start to the season, but he reached the final of the Northern Ireland Open in Belfast last month, losing in a decisive match to his English compatriot and close friend, Jack Lisowski.

However, it has been almost a year since Trump last claimed the rankings title at the UK Championships in York in December 2024.

Wu’s opponent in the quarter-finals will be Englishman Barry Hawkins, who ended Lisowski’s impressive winning streak with a 6-4 victory.

Lisowski, who knocked out Ronnie O’Sullivan in the third round on Tuesday, went on century breaks in three straight frames as he fought back from 4-0 down to level with Hawkins.

But the former world runner-up restored his lead with a break of 75 in the ninth frame before confirming his place in the next round.

World champion Zhao Xintong of China and four-time Crucible winner Mark Selby of England will meet in one of the other quarter-final matches, following their 6-1 wins over China’s Si Jiahui and Scotland’s Anthony McGill respectively.

Murphy’s reward for beating Deng is a quarter-final meeting with John Higgins, who came through the final frame decider to beat Scott Donaldson 6-5.

Stephen Maguire completed the quarter-final lineup by defeating home player Jiang Jun 6-4 to set up a showdown with Daman.
