Wu Yizi continued his good form as he beat world champion Zhou Xintong 9-6 to reach the final of the international tournament in Nanjing.
The 22-year-old, who reached the all-Chinese semi-finals on a 12-frame winning streak, lost the first frame but quickly settled down, opening a 4-2 lead with 140 points.
The pair reached the break at 4-4 but Wu then took control as he mercilessly won the next four frames while notching his 10th century of the tournament.
Zhu was able to raise the score to 6-8, but it was in vain as Wu forced a number of errors from his 28-year-old opponent in the fifteenth frame to achieve victory.
“I’m very excited. I didn’t think I could actually beat him. In fact, once the second session started, I felt a lot of pressure,” Wu said.
“He missed a brown ball that I didn’t expect in the ninth frame. I was ready to go to the bathroom and get ready for the next frame. It was a surprise. It was a turning point.”
Waugh will face the winner of either John Higgins or Stephen Maguire, who will play in the second Scottish semi-final on Saturday.
The final will take place on Sunday, with Wu looking to win his first ranking title.
He reached the final twice last season after losing to Neil Robertson in the English Open and Lee Bevan in the Scottish Open.
“I’ve definitely improved since the last rankings final, especially recently. I feel like I’ve started making fewer mistakes in matches, compared to last year,” Wu added.
