Harry Tector hit his half-century as Ireland pushed Bangladesh into the fifth day of their second Test in Mirpur.
A Bangladesh victory still looks like the likely outcome with the home side needing just four wickets and Ireland needing another 333 runs to pull off the upset.
The fourth day passed without incident after work on the third day on Friday was temporarily halted due to a 5.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the capital, Dhaka.
Bangladesh built on their strong start to the series and took a 508-run lead by the time captain Najm Hossain Shanto declared their innings over with a score of 297-4.
Ireland suffered an early blow in their batting as Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling were out at number eight for 13 and just nine runs.
Heinrich Malan’s side recovered as Curtis Kämpfer and Tector stabilized the innings, with the latter scoring his fifth Test half-century.
Campfer stayed in the cycle and didn’t go out with Andy McBrien in 11th alongside him to close the gap.
The match will resume on Sunday at 03:30 GMT.
Bangladesh won the first Test of the two-match series by an innings and 47 runs.
The second Test will follow three T20 internationals.
