With Coleraine and Linfield seeing their League of Ireland Premiership title hopes dashed by disappointing results in recent weeks, the cup competitions look likely to provide the clubs best silverware opportunity this season.
Both teams will compete in the BetMcLean Cup semi-finals later this month – Coleraine take on Glentoran and Linfield take on Ballymena United – while both have been tested in their first Irish Cup matches.
Coleraine hosts Crusaders in their opening match of the weekend in a match that will be broadcast live on BBC iPlayer and on the BBC Sport website on Friday evening.
The Bannsiders are targeting a first Irish Cup win since 2018 and aim to receive some tangible rewards for the significant financial investment in the club.
The Crusaders won back-to-back Irish Cups in 2022 and 2023, and although maintaining their top-flight status will be a priority, they will be hoping their good run in the cup can continue to build on the momentum created by their recent run of two wins and a draw from their past three league games.
Meanwhile, Linfield host another of last year’s semi-finalists, Bangor, in a repeat of last week’s league clash between the two sides, which saw the Premier League champions win 6-1.
The Seasiders took down Glentoran in the quarter-finals last season. Can they claim the scalp of the ‘Big Two’ again in one of the four Premier League clashes?
