Ismaila Sarr shines as Crystal Palace wins the Europa League

Sarr has four goals in his past three matches and is already close to matching his tally from last season – 12 goals in all competitions.

Palace signed Sarr from Marseille for a fee of around £12.5m in 2024 in a bid to replace winger Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich that summer.

This is an action that now looks incredibly smart, especially with Eze also leaving the club this year.

Chairman Oliver Glasner described the former Watford striker as an “important player” for the club.

“He seems to be handling it well – we know that when he has speed, he is really good,” the Austrian said.

“He has such great runs, such great touches. I remember, more or less, the same touch he scored against Brighton.” [last season].

“He got the same result against Arsenal in the FA Cup [last season]. He is the one with the speed, the one who runs the most at the back, and the one who has the most speed. It helps him create space for others. He did a really good job.”

An English club has won the Conference League title in two of the past three tournaments, and Palace are among the favorites to add their names to that list this season.

After a shock defeat to AEK Larnaca at Selhurst Park last time out, Glasner said a win in front of the home fans was much needed.

“I hope it’s not the last,” he added.

“The first time you always remember, there was a great atmosphere. I think everyone enjoyed it and went home happy with the result and performance.”
