Italy vs Northern Ireland: “There’s nothing to fear, it’s all for profit” – Stuart Dallas column

There has been a lot of hype surrounding Michael O’Neill’s decision to take over as coach of Blackburn Rovers ahead of the play-off, but to me it doesn’t change anything ahead of the game.

Preparation has been completed and Michael is very meticulous in his work. He leaves no stone unturned no matter the match or what is at stake.

He physically can’t do anything with the players until the group is together, and if I’m still playing, I won’t hesitate to take him on.

Michael will be a more meticulous coach to experience, and will still keep a close eye on the players and their matches.

The players will prepare the same way, and Michael will prepare the team the same way. It won’t make a difference in this game and his team will be ready.

For the players, you have to treat the game like any other from the moment you arrive at camp.

You have to do everything possible to give yourself the best chance of being at your highest level on match day, whether that’s from the start or on the bench.

There are no excuses, you only get one chance to do this and you have to be ready, and Michael will be ready too.

But one thing that concerns me is Dan Ballard losing the game. It’s a big hit.

Northern Ireland are already struggling without Connor Bradley, so losing another Premier League player, especially one of Dunne’s quality, is really disappointing.

I’ve watched a lot of games and he’s been exceptional for Sunderland this season and they’ve already gone up in the Premier League.

He brings a lot to Northern Ireland, with his experience, leadership and influence at both trusts.

It will be a big loss and other players will have to step up to fill the void he left.
