Jacques Della Maddalena: “He doesn’t panic and doesn’t make mistakes”

Islam Makhachev recently shared his thoughts on Jack Della Maddalena’s skillset, particularly praising the Australian fighter’s composure on the ground.

Makhachev is scheduled to compete against Della Maddalena for the welterweight championship at UFC 322 on November 15. The bout will be Makhachev’s debut in the UFC welterweight division, while Della Maddalena will make his first title defense.

In an interview with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, Makhachev was asked about the Australian fighter’s abilities. In response, he said:

“I’ve watched all his fights. He’s good. His striking is good. His boxing is very good and his wrestling is not very good, but he [is] Good in the ground. He knows how to defend and how to escape [and] How do you get up… I saw his defense, you know, a lot of guys knock him down. He’s been knocked down by all of his opponents in the UFC, but he feels great on the ground. When someone takes him down, he… [doesn’t] panic, [doesn’t make] “Errors.”

Bilal Muhammad reviews Jack Della Maddalena’s fight against Islam Makhachev

Jack Della Maddalena picked up a unanimous decision victory over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315, becoming the new welterweight champion. According to Mohammed, Della Maddalena’s chances of defeating Islam Makhachev on the ground are slim.

In an interview with Fight.com, Muhammad shared his assessment of the upcoming welterweight championship bout, saying:

“If you look at that fight stylistically, I think if Islam gets it to the ground, it’s going to be an easy night. Islam’s ground game is very good, and I think JDM [Della Maddalena] He makes a lot of mistakes on the ground with his scrambling. He’s very good at it, but I think Islam doesn’t allow you to rush. If you scramble, he’s good at locking up chokes or locking arm triangles.”

He added:

“But you still have to get him to the ground first, right? So, it’s funny. It’ll be good to see how he gets back on his feet with JDM, who’s kind of a tricky guy. But I think if he gets to the ground, it’s time to raise his hand.” [5:56 seconds into the interview]
