Double Olympic taekwondo champion Jade Jones marked her boxing debut with a second-round knockout win over Egypt Chris in a derby.

After two decades of playing taekwondo, Wells Jones switched to the sport at the start of last year, saying she needed a new challenge, and set herself the audacious goal of becoming a two-sport world champion.

Her first match came against Chris, the daughter of hip-hop stars Anthony “Tritch” Chris of Naughty by Nature and Sandra “Pepa” Denton of Salt-N-Pepa.

Jones, who won Olympic gold in London 2012 and Rio 2016, needed only two rounds to achieve victory, as her opponent dropped three left hooks in a row.

The 32-year-old from Flint has been training with former professional boxer Stephen “Swifty” Smith at Liverpool’s famous 4 Corners Gym.

Jones also drew inspiration from her former roommate, unified world boxing champion Lauren Price, who played football for Wales as well as being a kickboxer and taekwondo athlete, before turning to boxing.
