Paul has a clear vision of the truth about Friday. “This is the toughest opponent, the toughest challenge, the craziest thing I’ve ever done in my career,” he says.
But the discomfort caused by this battle is familiar.
Controversy has always been his fuel. He did not hesitate to react violently when he fought Mike Tyson, who is approaching retirement age, and it seems that he does not care now.
“Who are these boxing purists?” He’s joking. “How pure are they? Do they go to church or something?”
Paul’s confidence seems solid. However, for heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, this confidence turns into an “illusion.”

For some hardcore boxing fans, this reversal is part of the problem.
They want Paul’s experiment to be over. They want to restore the hierarchy. They want proof that boxing still has levels you can’t get past, no matter how many followers you bring with you.
“I carry boxing on my back,” has been Joshua’s mantra all week.
Friday night will decide whether this hierarchy can be restored.
