James Milner – Is the pursuit of Premier League records becoming a problem for Brighton?

If Milner equals Barry’s record on Wednesday night, he will do so having played far fewer minutes than Barry has during his career.

In total, Barry spent 54,439 minutes on the pitch compared to Milner’s 40,408.

However, it’s what you do with that playing time and Milner certainly contributed a lot when he played – scoring 56 goals and providing 90 assists.

These are stats that compare favorably with Barry’s record of 53 goals and 64 assists.

Milner’s longevity is certainly impressive.

Almost half of the players who have played in the Premier League since its founding in the 1992-93 season (5,094) have played alongside or against Milner.

Since his debut in the 2002-03 season, he has faced 99.9% of the other 876 players who have played at least 100 games in the last 24 Premier League seasons.

The only player who has avoided facing Milner so far is Brentford’s Nathan Collins, but that could change when the Bees play Brighton on February 21.

Many Premier League managers have also become well acquainted with Milner over the decades. Including his caretakers, he has appeared in the Premier League under 21 different managers, two more than any other player.
