Jannik Sinner demolished challenger Carlos Alcaraz to win the lucrative Six Kings Slam tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Sinner, who was replaced by Alcaraz in first place after the US Open last September, avenged his defeat in the New York final with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

With his win, the 24-year-old Italian pocketed $6m (£4.5m) – including $4.5m (£3.4m) in prize money, plus an entry fee of $1.5m (£1.1m).

While the pair have shared the Grand Slam titles between them this season, Sinner dominated from the start over Alcaraz, who said his opponent was “very good” on Saturday.

Sinner broke Alcaraz’s serve in the first game and quickly settled the first set, and the Spaniard was unable to maintain a foothold on his opponent’s serve.

He would go on to win the exhibition event for the second year in a row after making a decisive breakthrough in the seventh game of the second set.

“I hope I can play like this everywhere,” Sinner said in his on-field interview.

“This season we played several times and I also lost several times to Carlos. It is a great pleasure and honor to share the field with him.

“At the same time, you want to improve as a player and you need rivalries in the sport. So it’s good to have great competition and more importantly a great friendship off the field.

“We have a very special friendship and she is very nice.”
