January transfer window: who could move?

BBC Sport Chelsea Reporter Nizar Kinsella: “It is expected that Chelsea in this window will focus more on arrivals than arrivals. Most activities will focus on signing the best young talent for the future or preparing for the summer transfer window.

“The club have briefly explored a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyu, underscoring their willingness to change tack when a significant opportunity arises.

“On the outgoing side, Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi – part of the so-called ‘Bomb Squad’ – are high on the priority list and are available for sale or on loan domestically.

“Chelsea have already filled all six overseas loan slots, meaning they cannot loan out players within English football unless they call in a loanee.”

Sami Mokbel: “Alkmaar attacking midfielder Sven Mignans is attracting interest from the Premier League.

“West Ham are among the clubs to have monitored the 25-year-old, who also have suitors in Italy. He has 16 goal contributions (eight goals, eight assists) for the Dutch side this season.”

BBC Sport Liverpool Reporter Adam Patel: “Wataru Endo is currently injured but has played just 43 minutes in the Premier League this season. With the World Cup looming, the Japan international could be on his way out.

“Federico Chiesa is a fan favourite, but Arne Slott has used the Italian winger sparingly so far. Like Endo, Chiesa could be gunning for first-team action ahead of the World Cup. Italy are yet to secure qualification, but the 28-year-old last played for the Azzurri at Euro 2024.”

BBC Sport Manchester City Journalist Shimon Hafez: “Goalkeeper James Trafford could leave in January if Manchester City agree to a transfer. The 23-year-old is playing as a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma but needs to play regularly in a World Cup year. Club sources told BBC Sport they have no interest in allowing the former Burnley player to leave mid-season.

“German Stefan Ortega is likely to leave as he is now the fourth choice goalkeeper, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed with any club.”

“And what about the forgotten man Kalvin Phillips? The England midfielder has made one substitute appearance this season in the Carabao Cup, but is bottom of the table at City, so a January move would make sense for all parties.”
