📌 Key idea:
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Corbin Bosch to make a key breakthrough in the match against South Africa on day three of the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, November 16. The speedster cleaned up Bush for 25 to break a 44-run eighth-wicket stand between himself and skipper Temba Bavuma.
The expulsion came in the forty-eighth round of the second half for South Africa. Bumrah bowled a long ball that skidded off the surface. The batsman failed to lower his bat in time as the ball continued to hit the top of the off stump. As a result, India achieved this feat after 79 births. However, Bosh helped the Proteas extend their lead beyond 100 runs, including two sixes.

Interestingly, Corbin Bosh played with Jasprit Bumrah for Mumbai Indians (MI) last season. However, he looked clueless against the world’s No.1 ranked Test bowler. Notably, Bumrah picked up a catch in the first innings to bowl the Proteas for just 159. This was his 16th five-wicket haul in Tests.
Jasprit Bumrah comes to India’s rescue in friendly match against South Africa in Kolkata; Temba Bavuma stands tall for the Proteas
Jasprit Bumrah took the field out of play and continued his exploits with the ball in the first Test. The speedster batted at number three after he was asked to bowl by stand-in captain Rishabh Pant, who is leading in the absence of Shubman Gill (out with stiff neck).
Meanwhile, South Africa’s captain, Themba Bavuma, led by example, scoring the maiden half-century of the match.
At the time of writing, the tourists are 150/8 for the second round, with Bavuma and Harmer at the crease.
Notably, the Proteas have not won a Test match in India since 2010. The global Test champions will look to give their best in the ongoing match. They come off a 1-1 draw in a two-match Test series in Pakistan.
It is worth noting that Axar Patel pointed out that the pitch is difficult to bat on. The all-rounder said aiming above 125 may be difficult. He said after the second day (via Cricbuzz):
“On one end, it looks like it’s going straight, but on the other end, it’s all happening. You have to play attacking cricket as a batsman. You have to convert loose balls and keep an attacking mindset. You can’t have a defensive mindset because you’ll never get in.”
“When you know there is something in it for the bowlers, you can get carried away with the idea of playing some magic balls. Patience is key. If we can keep them below 125, it should be chaseable,” he added.
According to Cricbuzz, the highest successful place run chase in Tests is 120 (by India) in 2004.
