Teen Chelsea Striker Jesse Deary was taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering a head injury during the 3-1 loss to its hosts in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest.
The 18-year-old made his top-flight debut on Monday when he clashed heads with rival Zak Abbott in the Forest penalty area in the 45th minute.
He received oxygen on the pitch before being taken off the field on a stretcher after a long layoff.
Chelsea said in a statement that Derry was “conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary tests.”
After the match, Chelsea’s interim coach, Callum MacFarlane, told the BBC: “All the signs are positive at the moment, so hopefully he’s in good shape and from what we’ve heard he’s positive.”
“I feel bad for Jesse, I think he did well in the game. He gave us a threat and it was a huge moment for him that unfortunately ended.”
Deere, the son of former Leeds and Crystal Palace midfielder Sean Deere, was making his first start for the club after making two substitute appearances in the FA Cup this season.
The England Under-19 winger has scored 12 goals in 29 academy appearances this season since joining from Crystal Palace last summer.
A header collision earned Chelsea a penalty, but Cole Palmer’s spot-kick was saved by Forest keeper Matz Sells.
Derry was replaced by Liam Delap who came on as a concussion substitute.
