“Job of a Lifetime”: Line of Duty returns for Season 7 | Line of duty

BBC’s hit crime drama Line of Duty has been confirmed to return for a seventh season. The BBC today announced a new six-part season following an anti-corruption police investigation.

“We couldn’t be happier to be back for the seventh time [series]“Corruption in this country was supposed to be gone while Line of Duty was off the air, so I had to use my imagination,” said creator Jed Mercurio.

The return of the three main characters has also been confirmed. The series stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston as detectives Kate Fleming and Steve Arnott. They are joined once again by Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings, the uncompromising moral officer whose hatred of “bent coppers” is matched only by his passion for subconscious cries of rage that include the phrase “little ass.”

In a change from the format of the previous series, the plot revolves around the former police anti-corruption unit, AC-12, after it has been disbanded and renamed the Police Standards Inspectorate. The team will investigate a detective inspector accused of being a sexual predator in an environment described by the BBC as one in which “the work of fighting corruption has never been more difficult”.

“As we count down the days to AC-12’s Christmas, we’re thrilled to know that the three friends will be back filming together next year,” Dunbar said.

“Line of Duty was the job of a lifetime,” Compston said. “I can’t wait to put on the jacket again and get the team back together.”

The actor playing the suspect has not yet been revealed. However, the show has a habit of introducing one big-name guest star per season, with past participants including Keeley Hawes, Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Graham, and Thandiwe Newton.

Public statements from the cast about their desire to film an AC-12 reunion meant that there had long been rumors about her return. Some outlets even reported in 2022 that a three-part miniseries was imminent. However, the BBC’s latest announcement is a surprise, given that last October, McClure poured cold water on the prospect of returning to the show in an interview with the Radio Times, saying she had “no updates, it seems”.

“I don’t want to give anyone any false hope,” McClure said. “We’ve all been very clear that we would absolutely love to do another series.”

Line of Duty has been off screens since its sixth season ended in May 2021. The finale was a ratings hit, with a record 12.8 million viewers – which the BBC said was the most-watched episode of any drama, excluding soap operas, since modern records began in 2002.

However, this was seen as largely disappointing, as it marked a season that failed to reach the heights of previous matches. The Guardian TV critic Lucy Mangan said of it: “At the risk of sounding like just an embittered fan shouting at Johnny’s latecomer… manYou should have seen him back in the days when he was good.
