John Stones has a good joke after pranking England coach Thomas Tuchel

He was one of the Viral moments of England beat Mexico 3-2.

A sneak peek into the Three Lions’ dressing room showed coach Thomas Tuchel clapping along to the post-match tune, before stopping his celebrations in worry as Declan Rice reported that defender John Stones had injured his shoulder.

Or so the president thinks.

But Stones, who was clutching his shoulder and flexing his arm in obvious discomfort, began pumping his fist towards the ceiling as the fall began – to cheers from his team-mates and the obvious relief of Tuchel.

The rebounding Tuchel then walked up to the 32-year-old to hug him and a viral moment was born, racking up more than 40 million views on social media.

“I feel better now, it feels better, there are ups and downs,” Stones joked when asked about his shoulder during an interview with English internal media.

The prank came after midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered a freak injury when he fell while jumping over advertising hoardings after the match.

Stones added: “I tried to keep a straight face while I was doing it because I saw him [Tuchel] He was feeling anxious and thinking, “Did he really hurt himself?”

“Especially after what Hendo just did outside, he didn’t know what was going to happen but there were good feelings there.

“I didn’t think it would get this much attention to be fair.”

Stones, who started in England’s 4-2 win over Croatia and made a last-minute appearance in the 2-1 win over DR Congo, came on with just over half an hour to play against Mexico when winger Bukayo Saka was sacrificed after Jarrell Quansah’s red card.

England play Norway in the quarter-finals in Miami on Saturday (22:00 GMT).
