Jones Hovercraft 2.0 Snowboard Review: For big powder days

It’s also the best board I’ve ever used in the trees. Despite its width, it turns nimbly in loose snow, where those quick changes of direction are so important. In March 2024, I took this painting on a road trip through Northern California, Idaho, Montana, and Washington. At some of those stops it hadn’t snowed in days, and everything that was out in the open was tracked down, but when I took this board into the trees, I was always able to find some pockets of fresh goodies. On those special occasions when I reached a large, steep snowfield, the board had a casual surfing feel. It glides well on flat spots too.

The Hovercraft 2.0 is also arguably the most sustainable snowboard ever. It’s the first skateboard made using Jones’ new Re-Up technology, which recycles components from used skateboards. Jones found that 95 percent of a skateboard can be recycled, which is where the wood core of this board comes from. They also feature recycled steel in their edges, recycled ABS in their sidewalls, a carbon-neutral flax fiber top layer, and a bio-resin that cuts out CO2.₂ Emissions reduced by 33 percent compared to traditional epoxy. It also comes pre-treated with Wend’s natural biodegradable wax and contains no Forever Fluorocarbon chemicals like PFAS.

This should come as no surprise, as founder Jeremy Jones is not only a legendary snowboarder, but also the founder and president of Protect Our Winters (aka POW). But it’s nice to see companies putting their money where their mouth is.

Ultimately, there’s a lot to like about this board and very little to dislike, but it’s for a certain type of rider looking for a specific experience. If you’re mostly focused on haircare tools, this palette is fine, but it doesn’t really stand out against the solid packaging. For intermediate to advanced riders who want to spend as much time as possible hunting powder in ungroomed terrain, surfing downhill, cutting big turns, exploring trees, and still do some fun carving on their way back to the lift line, the Hovercraft 2.0 is an absolute joy.

It’s just a pure fun machine that has taken me to some of the most memorable events of my life. I’ve usurped my beloved K2 rig as my board of choice for powder days. If that’s your thing, this palette comes highly recommended.
