Jordan Pickford save: How good is the Everton goalkeeper’s save?

Jordan Pickford is no stranger to making stunning saves on both Everton And England – but was Saturday’s game robbing Sandro Tonali of his best yet?

With the Toffees leading 3-2 at St James’ Park, Tonali sent a powerful shot towards the Everton goal that looked destined for Newcastle’s third equaliser.

But Pickford extended his right hand and swung the effort onto the crossbar and wide.

Jarrad Branthwaite, the 31-year-old’s team-mate at Everton, described it as “the best save I’ve ever seen”.

After his team held on to take the three points, he added: “When he does things like this it’s magical. We kept us in the game at the end of the day and it’s a massive three points.”

Speaking at today’s match, former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer said it was “world class”.

“It was a great shot by Sandro Tonali, but it was an unbelievable save,” Shearer said. “The response to putting that on the bar has been amazing.”
