England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has signed a new contract with Everton that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.
The 31-year-old joined the Toffees from Sunderland in 2017 for £30m, a British record for a goalkeeper at the time.
His previous contract with Everton was set to expire in 2027.
“I’m very happy and this gives me the opportunity to build a legacy for myself here, move forward and build this club to where we want to be,” Pickford said.
“Everton is a really special club for me. I came from Sunderland as a young boy and have developed into a man here. It’s been a special time for me and my family.”
“I think the dark days are over and it’s about building that momentum as a team and a club now.”
Pickford has made 326 appearances since arriving on Merseyside, winning the club’s Player of the Year award four times, and winning all 80 of his caps while an Everton player.
The news comes as a further boost for Everton, who tied down captain James Tarkowski on a new two-year contract earlier this month, as the club made an encouraging start to the Premier League season.
Pickford added: “The new owners have come in and shown that they want to push us forward, and the coach has shown that since he came as well, and so have we as players on the pitch.”
“We have started well and we want to continue building this momentum and return Everton to a team that competes in Europe.
“We want to have that trend, and hopefully one day we can lift some titles as well.”
Pickford has maintained a record nine consecutive clean sheets with England, and has not conceded an international goal for more than a year.
He also remains hopeful that his time at Everton will be talked about in the same way as Neville Southall.
Widely considered the club’s greatest goalkeeper, former Wales international Southall also holds the record for the most appearances for Everton with 751 in all competitions.
“I want to continue to build that legacy,” Bickford added.
“You know, [Neville] “Southall is a great player at Everton and I don’t want to be too far behind him, if not in front of him, when my time is up.”
