A man died after his electric wheelchair collided with a car driven by Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez.
The accident occurred in Como County, where police said the wheelchair apparently veered off the vehicle’s path.
The authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
“The car driven by Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez hit a man who was in an electric wheelchair traveling on a bicycle path next to a road in the province of Como,” Italian police told Reuters.
He added, “Martinez stopped his car to help the man, who died before the ambulance arrived.”
Inter canceled the press conference scheduled for Tuesday to preview Wednesday’s Serie A match at home to Fiorentina.
The club refused to comment on the incident.
Martinez is Inter’s second goalkeeper since joining from Italian club Genoa in 2024.
The 27-year-old Spain international, who has also played for Las Palmas and RB Leipzig, has made 12 appearances for Inter.
