Promoter Eddie Hearn says he misled Jake Paul’s representatives by claiming Anthony Joshua was heavier than him in order to agree a weight requirement for their fight.

Former two-time unified heavyweight champion Briton Joshua will face the YouTuber-turned-boxer at the Cascia Center in Miami on December 19.

Joshua has weighed over 250 pounds (17 12 lbs) in each of his past three fights, but should be under 245 pounds (17 7 lbs). Both fighters will wear 10 ounce gloves.

“I talked to AJ and he was sitting at 265 pounds (18’13) or something like that. I think I told Nakisa [Bidarian – co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions] He was like 290 pounds (20) or something like that,” Hearn told the 5 Live Boxing podcast.

The fight was streamed live on Netflix, and is scheduled to last eight three-minute rounds.

It will be a professional competition between one of Britain’s most decorated personalities and a former Disney Channel actor who has reinvented himself as a pay-per-view attraction.

Hearn added: “I said I wasn’t interested in the balloon gloves and the two-minute rounds, but he said it was a real fight. I asked him if it was 10 rounds or eight rounds, and they said okay for eight.”

“The only thing is that Jake is going to weigh about 220 pounds or 225 pounds and we want AJ to get down,” they said.

“He’s a heavyweight and he’s never cut weight before. They said: ‘Look, we’re not being funny. It’s not that we need an advantage but we want you to have some disadvantage.’
