Kay Trump missed the cut in her LPGA debut after leaving her with a five-over 75 on 18-over-par at the Annika Championship in Florida.

The 18-year-old amateur, the granddaughter of US President Donald Trump, was the last to arrive in the field of 108 players at the end of the second round.

Trump, who was competing as an exemption sponsor at Pelican Golf Club, made a significant improvement from the 83 she signed on Thursday, when she attracted big galleries and struggled with nerves.

She made birdies on the third, seventh, 11th and 12th after nearly sinking an eight-iron from 140 yards on what would have been her first hole.

“The first day I was definitely really nervous. I think the nervousness just got to me,” Trump said.

“When I went out there today I felt calm and at peace to be honest with you. That’s why I played better.”

While she was also at par on the difficult 18th hole for the second day in a row, there were several tough moments including a triple bogey seven on the par-4 fifth.

Trump, whose mother Vanessa is dating 15-time men’s champion Tiger Woods, added: “Things are going to happen. Once they happen, you can’t go back in time and fix it.”

“The best thing I can do is move on. As I told my bearer, Alan [Kournikova]I just started laughing. That’s what it is. We’ve got that out of the way, so let’s move on. It was very easy to move on after that.”

Trump, who has committed to play at the University of Miami next year, has played just three events this semester.

She was also ranked No. 461 in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings yet was still able to make a big impression, averaging 241 yards off the tee and finding 11 of 14 fairways.

“That’s really good, considering this is not just an easy event on the LPGA, this is probably one of the harder courses we play on,” said England’s Charlie Hall, who played three sets before Trump.

Hull, who has struggled with visa and illness issues in the lead-up to the tournament, is five under par overall and four strokes behind joint leaders Len Grant and Grace Kim.

World number two Nelly Korda is vying for sixth place in the five-under match on six under par alongside the likes of Spain’s Carlota Ciganda, after shooting a seven-under 63 on Friday.
