Kay Trump will not be short of notable supporters when she makes her LPGA debut on Thursday.

The 18-year-old, the granddaughter of US President Donald Trump, obtained an exemption from a sponsor to play in Anika in Florida.

Trump, an avid golfer, owns 17 courses around the world – including three in the UK – and regularly competes against Kay.

“He’s very good. I can’t say much but we have some tough matches,” she said.

Kaye said Trump, who was unable to attend Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, told her: “Just don’t get nervous.”

“My grandfather often told me to go out there and have fun,” she said.

“To me, he’s just a regular grandfather. He’s not coming this weekend. He’s running the world now, so he’s a little busy.”

Amateur Kai has played just three events this year and is ranked No. 461 in the USGA junior rankings.

But she could ask for advice from 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, who is in a relationship with her mother Vanessa.

“He’s the best golfer in the whole world,” Kay said.

“And he’s a better person. He told me to go out and have fun and go with the flow.”

Kai will compete against some of the biggest names in the sport in Annika, including world number two Nelly Korda, who won her third title in the event last year, England’s Charlie Hall, Lexi Thompson and 2023 champion Lilia Fu.

“Kay’s broad following and reach are helping to introduce the game of golf to new audiences, especially among younger fans,” the LPGA said.

Kay has over six million followers on social media and recently launched her own clothing and lifestyle brand.
