✅ Main takeaway:

“There is a lot of talent in T20 and the coming period will be important to attract these players to cricket and prepare them for the World Cup.

“Mitch [Santner] He’s a great captain and leader – he’s really had success with this team.

“Now is the time to push the Black Caps forward like this and I will be supporting them from afar.”

The T20 World Cup begins in India and Sri Lanka in February.

Williamson made his T20 debut for New Zealand in 2011 but has not featured since June 2024.

Considered by many to be the greatest batsman in New Zealand’s history, he is the all-time leading Test run-scorer and fourth on the ODI list.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Wennink said Williamson had earned the right to decide how he would end his ODI and Test career.

“We have made it clear to Ken that he has our full support as he reaches the end of his illustrious career,” he said.

“We would of course like to see him play for as long as possible, but there is no doubt that when he finally decides to stop, he will become a legend in New Zealand cricket.”

New Zealand completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the one-day series against England on Saturday, having lost the rain-hit T20 series 1-0 previously.
