💡 Here’s what you’ll learn:

Former England footballer Karen Carney and professional dancer Carlos Go have won the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Carney is the first footballer to lift the Glitterball trophy while Gu became the first gay and Asian man to win the BBC One dance show.

Saturday’s final was also the last time presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman would co-host the live weekend show together after announcing in October that they were leaving the program after 21 and 11 years respectively.

After being announced the winner, beating West End actress Amber Davies and social media personality George Clarke, Carney, 38, said: “I can’t believe it.

“I just want to thank everyone who supported our journey and supported us.

“Thank you to this amazing man, we are a team and I couldn’t have done it without you.”

She thanked Joe (32 years old), the former Leonis midfielder, and said: “You changed my life.”

He added: “To the girls and boys watching us at home, dream big, be proud and never give up.”

Before the series winners were crowned, a video tribute to Daley and Winkleman was played with messages from fans, friends and familiar faces including TV chef Mary Berry.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood later read a letter sent by Queen Camilla that said: “I have often thought that Strictly is less a show about dancing than a show about friendships: bonds formed, struggles overcome, and joy shared in undertaking a common endeavour.

“If that is true, then yours may be the greatest stern partnership of all time.

“The warmth, compassion and sheer happiness you radiated with each other was at the heart of the show’s success.

“I think I speak for everyone when I say you were absolutely wonderful.

“I wish you both every success wherever life’s journey takes you next. But as someone who has appreciated its lifelong benefits, promise us one thing: KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET DANCE!”

Daly said: “Thank you all so much for your lovely words, they mean the world.

“Thank you for the support you have shown over the years.”

“It was an absolute honor to spend my weekends with you,” Winkleman added.

The finalists performed three dances on the live show, including a pre-routine after a masterclass with the judges, a show dance, and their favorite dance from the series.

Carney and Go performed a Peaky Blinders-inspired Argentine tango to Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, which received a perfect score of 40 points from the judges.

They later performed their show dance to Texas’ Inner Smile, receiving 37 points from the judges, before performing a football-themed dance to Blondie’s One Way or Another as their favorite dance.

Daly and Winkleman will return for their final appearance as the presenting duo in a pre-recorded festive special which will be broadcast on Christmas Day.
