Northampton Town have sacked manager Kevin Nolan after a run of only wins in their last 16 league games.
The Cobblers are in 23rd place in League One, three points from safety, having scored just 31 goals in 36 matches, the second lowest total in the league.
They were held to a goalless draw in what proved to be Nolan’s final game in charge, losing 1-0 to AFC Wimbledon on Sunday.
Manager Colin Calderwood was put in charge on an interim basis, assisted by Ian Sampson, both former Northampton managers.
Club president Kelvin Thomas said in a statement: “We will always be grateful to Kevin for his hard work here. He helped us continue last season and we enjoyed a strong first half of this season.”, external
“But since Christmas, the sequence of performance and results has led us to believe that change is in the interests of all parties involved.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Colin’s experience, supported by Ian Sampson and the rest of the staff to look after matters on an interim basis.”
Nolan’s departure came on the 129th anniversary of Northampton’s founding, the 10th of 24 clubs to part ways with their boss this season.
