Kiefer Sutherland, who starred in the TV series 24 and the vampire film The Lost Boys, was arrested Monday on suspicion of assaulting a taxi driver, according to Los Angeles police.

The British-Canadian actor was taken into custody after officers responded to a call in Hollywood shortly after midnight.

“The investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a shared vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim,” police claimed in a statement.

Law enforcement said the 59-year-old actor was released a few hours later after posting $50,000 bail. His trial is scheduled for February 2, court records show.

Representatives for Sutherland did not immediately respond to requests for comment from AFP.

Police said the driver did not suffer any injuries that required medical attention.

Sutherland is best known for playing counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the hit TV series 24 from 2001 to 2010. On the silver screen, he had memorable roles in The Lost Boys (1987), Stand By Me (1986), and The Three Musketeers (1993).
