‘Kim Kardashian had no pretensions to being a great actress’: Glenn Close responds to All’s Fair’s zero-star reviews | television

Glenn Close has responded to the critical criticism she faced in her latest series All’s Fair. The actor stars in director Ryan Murphy’s legal drama, which has received a string of starless reviews. In her assessment, Lucy Mangan of The Guardian described it as: “stunning, incomprehensible and existentially terrible”. The series currently has a 3% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

According to Close, the main problem was the choice to air the three worst episodes first. “I personally think the first three episodes were the weakest,” she told Variety. “That was a tough way to start. I’ve watched all nine episodes, and I think it really adds something.”

She also spoke about her support for her co-star Kim Kardashian, who plays one of a number of women who founded a law firm that handles divorces in California. She says she got along well with Kardashian on set, and at one point even went to see Close’s classic Fatal Engagement, which was organized by Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner.

“What surprised me was the seriousness of Kim’s intentions,” Close said. “She always knew her lines. She was never late. She was always prepared. She had no pretense of being a great actress, but she was smart enough to have people around her that she could learn from. If she had a big ego, or what I call ‘life’s too short,’ I would have been miserable, but she’s not.”

Close also blamed the Kardashians’ reputation for part of the negative reaction. “The Kardashians may say this themselves, but not everyone likes them. They have an image.”

Close has previously spoken about her love for the show. During an interview with The Guardian questioning the quality of All’s Fair’s writing, she said: “I swear to God, I’ve watched all nine episodes and they’re so good. It’s what it is: exciting, outrageous at times, poignant.”
