Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball said he was happy to play against the Houston Rockets one day after being involved in a car accident.

The 24-year-old custom-built Hummer was involved in a collision with an oncoming car in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday.

The American scored 11 points, recorded seven rebounds and seven assists in his team’s 105-101 loss, but Paul was grateful to be involved.

“I am alive and blessed,” he said.

“God is great.”

The front left tire of Paul’s car exploded during the accident but no one was seriously injured.

Ball was seen being picked up by a black Lamborghini shortly after the accident. Police were on the scene at the time.

Paul added: “Luckily everyone is amazing, so God bless you.”

Ball joined the Hornets in 2020, when he was the third overall pick in the draft.

In 2021, he was named Rookie of the Year after a standout debut season at North Carolina, while he was named an NBA All-Star in 2022.

In November 2024, Paul was fined $100,000 (£79,000) by the NBA for making an “offensive and insulting” homophobic comment during a courtside interview.

The fine was the maximum the NBA could impose under current guidelines.
