Laura Muir has enjoyed a triumphant return to the Scottish Cross Country Championships, 14 years after her last appearance in the event.
The 32-year-old Olympic medalist finished 13 seconds behind in the 10km race at Callendar Park, Falkirk.
“It’s been a long race for me,” said Muir, who won the under-20 gold medal at the same venue in 2012.
“It was a little step back into the unknown as far as cross country racing goes. But I knew I was pretty fit at the moment and I’m happy to show that.
“Scout Adkin and Naomi Lange [second and third] They are world class hill runners and Scout had a great race – she really kept it up. On anything technical, or uphill, I would lose ground so I had to dig sometimes.
“Fortunately I did that and then I used my speed in the final stages to pull away and win.”
Speaking to Scottish Athletics, Muir added: “When I stood here 14 years ago after winning the Under-20 title, I had no idea what my career would follow. I don’t think I could have imagined medal success.
“It seems like it has come through and a lot has happened on and off the track. I have won medals in all six championships.” [indoor and out, European, World, Olympic and Commonwealth] Which was cool, but not something you’d really expect.
“It was great to come back here and win the Scottish title and enjoy such a warm reception.”
Jimmy Crow won the men’s race for the fourth time.
