Semenyu’s winner silenced the raucous crowd with a well-placed shot, and he reacted quickest to pick out Rayan Ait Nouri’s cross and turn the ball over with confidence.

Semenyu lifts the scoring burden off Haaland’s shoulders – only his team-mate (29) and Brentford’s Igor Thiago (19) have been involved in more Premier League goals than Semenyu’s 18.

Since signing for City, Semenho has scored four league goals and provided one assist, a record goal contributions bettered only by Chelsea duo Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, who each scored six goals.

In late November, Haaland scored 58% of City’s goals, executed 30% of their shots and scored 57% of their expected goals (xG).

He scored 19 goals in all competitions. Burnley’s Maxime Esteve was City’s second-highest scorer in the league thanks to two own goals in the match at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, while Haaland’s impressive tally of 29 goals for the season remains tops, Semenyu – and others – are silencing those who fear City are too reliant on the Norwegian’s goals.
