💡 **What You’ll Learn**:
Do you like? Do you have a second monitor with your computer setup? What if your laptop could hold a second screen for you? That’s the idea behind Lenovo’s latest proof of concept, the ThinkBook Modular AI PC, announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Lenovo is never shy about showing off its weird and weird laptops. We’ve seen a PC with a transparent display, one with a foldable OLED display, a swivel display, and another with a foldable display. At CES earlier this year, the company showed off a gaming laptop with a display that was expandable with the push of a button. Sometimes, these concepts turn into real products that go on sale (often in limited quantities).
At MWC 2026, Lenovo showed off three concepts. While it’s unclear whether any of them will become real, purchasable products, there are some unique benefits here, and a peek into how computing experiences will change in the future.
Laptop with built-in portable display
As someone who has a multi-monitor setup at home and is fond of portable monitors, the ThinkBook Modular AI PC appeals to me the most. At first glance, it looks like a regular laptop. Take a look behind you, and you’ll notice that there’s a second screen magnetically suspended on the back of the laptop, like a koala carrying a baby on its back.
The display is connected to the laptop using pogo-pin connectors, so you can use it in this case to display content to people in front of you, for example, if you are giving a presentation during a meeting. Alternatively, you can turn off this second screen, remove the hidden kickstand at the bottom of the laptop, and magnetically attach it to the 14-inch display so you get a traditional portable monitor experience. (You’ll need to connect this to your laptop via a USB-C cable in this direction.)
If you don’t have the desk space for this trend, you can always remove the keyboard from the base and open the second screen there – it will automatically connect to the laptop via pogo pins, and you’ll be able to use a Bluetooth keyboard to type on the dual-screen setup similar to the Asus ZenBook Duo. The whole system is a wonderfully portable way to improve productivity on the go, and the laptop isn’t too thick or cumbersome.
