Leslie Odom Jr., Broadway’s original Aaron Burr, joins the cast of Hamilton in London | stage

Leslie Odom Jr., who originated the role of Aaron Burr in Broadway’s “Hamilton,” returns to the hit musical — this time in his West End debut.

The actor will join the cast in London at the Victoria Palace Theater for nine weeks this summer. Odom won a Tony Award in 2016 for his portrayal, which he developed alongside the show’s creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, in the workshop and off-Broadway production. He was featured on the Grammy Award-winning cast album and also played a role in the Disney+ film Hamilton, recorded at the Richard Rodgers Theater in New York.

Burr is the musical’s main antagonist—a lawyer and politician whose rivalry with Alexander Hamilton, America’s first Secretary of the Treasury, leads to tragedy. Burr has the first lines of the show in the opening number where he also introduces himself with the words: “And me? I’m the fucking idiot who shot him.” He leads the songs “Wait for It” and “The Room Where It Happens” and Hamilton participates in a poignant duet called “Dear Theodosia.”

Odom played Burr in the original Broadway production for a year and reprized the role for 12 weeks in 2025. “Returning to Hamilton and revisiting the role of Aaron Burr with growth and perspective of time was a deeply healing artistic experience,” he said. “I am grateful to [producers] Cameron Mackintosh and Geoffrey Sellers for inviting me to make my West End debut with this wonderful company.

“When Jeffrey Seller first invited me to see Hamilton during its New York tryout at the Public Theater more than 10 years ago, I was blown away by Leslie Odom Jr.’s electric performance…I’m thrilled that London will now be able to share the experience,” McIntosh said.

Hamilton opened in London in 2017 and won seven Olivier Awards, including Best Actor in a Musical for Giles Terrera as Aaron Burr.
