Rosenior achieved seventh place with Strasbourg in the French League last season, securing the European League.

The French side are part of the multi-club BlueCo ownership group owned by Todd Buhle and Clearlake Capital which also controls Chelsea – but have rejected suggestions they have been appointed to fall in line with their bosses.

“I don’t think it’s possible to be in this job and not be your own man,” Rosenior added.

“I understand I’m not an alien and I know what’s being said in the press, but there’s no way you can become a manager if you don’t make the decisions yourself.”

Rosenior is coaching the Chelsea team, which is ranked eighth in the English Premier League after five matches without a win, but is still participating in three other cup competitions this season.

Italian Maresca departed less than six months after winning the FIFA Club World Cup at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge, departing amid internal tensions with the club’s hierarchy and ownership.

“At a club of this stature, the fans want success, and they have every right to want success,” Rosenior said.

“To win over the fans, I have to win football matches and build a team that represents them. We try to build things in a different way.

“My job is to try to create a team that teams will be afraid to come to Stamford Bridge.”
