Liverpool Head coach Arne Slott says Jeremy Frimpong will be out for a “few weeks” with a thigh injury – a better result than the club feared.
The versatile defender had to be substituted four minutes into the 6-0 win over Karabakh on Wednesday.
The injury means the Reds do not have a right-back available to face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
“he [Frimpong] “He definitely won’t be on the team tomorrow,” Slott said.
“He’ll be out for a few weeks, however [it’s] “It’s not as bad as we thought, so there’s something positive out of something that’s not positive.”
Frimpong, 25, who signed for the Reds in May, suffered a hamstring injury earlier this season and was out for several weeks.
Connor Bradley has already been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a major knee injury, resulting in bone and ligament damage.
Another key right-back option, Joe Gomez, will miss the match against Newcastle after suffering a knock recently, but Slott expects him to return soon.
Liverpool boss Slott says striker Alexander Isak will not be brought back soon after suffering a broken leg and ankle surgery, having just been given up on the walking aid he used for support.
