Liverpool The club has become the top earner in the Premier League for the first time, according to analysis by financial firm Deloitte.

The Reds won the Premier League title last season and generated €836m (£702m) – more revenue than any other English club.

Manchester United have fallen to their lowest ever position in the 29th edition of the Deloitte Financial Football League.

Real Madrid tops the list again with revenues of €1.2bn (£1.01bn), despite not winning the Champions League or La Liga last season, with the two Manchester clubs falling to the bottom of the list.

Barcelona finished second, returning to the top three for the first time since 2019-20 after making €975m (£819m), despite playing away from the refurbished Nou Camp last season.

Bayern Munich occupies third place with 861 million euros (723 million pounds sterling), Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain occupies fourth place with 837 million euros (703 million pounds sterling), and Liverpool occupies fifth place.

Manchester City fell from second to sixth place with revenues of 829 million euros (697 million pounds sterling).

Manchester United, who finished the English Premier League in 15th place and lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final, moved from fourth to eighth place with 793 million euros (666 million pounds sterling).

United topped the Financial League on 10 occasions, most recently in 2017.

Their revenue from matches will also be affected this season given they are not participating in European competitions and were knocked out of the FA Cup and League Cup at the first hurdle.

“If you go back 10 or 15 years and look at Manchester United’s matchday revenues, they are the industry leader,” said Tim Bridge, senior partner of Deloitte Sports Business Group.

“If you look at their ability to generate business revenue, that’s the standard by which everyone went to market and developed their strategy. I don’t think that’s the case.”

There are six English clubs in the top ten, with Arsenal (€822m, £690m) in seventh, Tottenham (€673m, £565m) in ninth and Chelsea in 10th with €584m (£491m).

Three other English teams climbed into the top 20, with Aston Villa (€450m, £378m) in 14th, Newcastle United (€400m, £335m) in 17th, and West Ham United (€276m, £232m) in 20th.
