💡 **What You’ll Learn**:

Lucid Motors will build twice as many electric vehicles in 2025 than it did the year before, a sign that the company has recovered from early production struggles with its new Gravity SUV.

The company announced Monday that it ended the year building 18,378 electric vehicles, with 8,412 coming in the fourth quarter alone. That’s more than Lucid made at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, in the first half of the year. Lucid also said it delivered – i.e. sold – 15,841 vehicles over the entire year, an increase of 55% from 2024 numbers.

The stronger finish to 2025 positions Lucid for a momentous year that will see the company begin building its first vehicle on its new midsize EV platform. The company said this first car will cost about $50,000, making it close to the same part of the market as the Tesla Model Y and Rivian’s upcoming R2 SUV.

The numbers still pale in comparison to the projections put forward by Lucid Motors when it went public in a $4 billion reverse merger in 2021. At the time, the company claimed it would deliver 135,000 vehicles in 2025, of which 86,000 would be Gravity SUVs, 42,000 would be Air sedans, and the remaining 7,000 would come from midsize EVs that have yet to emerge.

These goals quickly became unrealistic as Lucid faced production, supply and demand challenges for both vehicles, all while navigating an automotive market severely disrupted by the pandemic. The company particularly struggled in early 2025 when it began ramping up production of the Gravity SUV. Since then, the company has been dealing with a number of quality issues with the vehicle, so much so that interim CEO Mark Winterhoff sent an email to customers in December saying he shared their “frustration.”

“Unfortunately, the outstanding software issues have impacted our customers’ experience and satisfaction. I want to assure you that we are laser-focused on addressing these issues,” he wrote.
