Lume Cube Edge Light Go (2026) review: Versatile and portable

The lamp base has two sliding buttons. One switch adjusts the warmth, from cool white to red light. One adjusts the intensity, from ultra-bright to no-glow. Hard clicks on each button skip ahead, while pressing the toggle down to one side or the other adjusts the light settings ever so slowly – slowly enough that I sometimes wonder at first if that’s even happening.

The maximum brightness is 1000 lumens, which is the approximate intensity of a 75-watt incandescent bulb. At this brightness, the battery lasts about five hours. At lower intensity, this can extend up to twelve hours.

An additional feature I’ve come to appreciate at night is the red light mode. There’s little evidence that the blue light from your tiny smartphone keeps you awake at night. But several studies show that blue light wavelengths can affect melatonin levels and thus your body’s circadian rhythm, while red light does not.

Red light therapy is of course as much TikTok’s area of ​​expertise as it is science, a field where wild hype lives alongside legitimate uses and benefits. For every sleep study that shows red light outperforms blue light when it comes to melatonin levels, there’s another study that shows red light is linked to “negative emotions” before sleep.

So I can only offer my own experience, which is that the Edge Light Go’s red reading light provides me with a pleasant liminal space between wake time and bedtime, a space that a basic nightstand lamp doesn’t provide. It allows me to lie down in a dark room allowing me to see, read and drift off more easily.

If I fall asleep, the light automatically turns off for 25 minutes, which means I won’t do what I often do, which is drifting off while reading and then waking up, annoyed, to a room full of bright light in the middle of the night.

Caveats and quirks

However, for all its portability virtues, the Edge Light Go doesn’t feature a heavy enough base to prevent the lamp from tipping over if you bend it forward from its lowest hinge. This can be annoying when trying to use the lamp as a reading lamp from a bedside table or the arm of a sofa.
