Simenho’s beaming smile throughout was as bright as the stadium’s floodlights after playing a key role in his side’s massive success.

Star striker Erling Haaland only played the first 45 minutes, missing Semenyu’s goal contributions, but he will lick his lips at the favor he might receive from City’s new signing.

A delightful ball into the box from the left was finished by Rico Luis to score their fifth goal, before he showed class and composure to make it 6-0.

“It’s not a surprise for us because everyone has seen how good the player is in the Premier League,” Lewis said.

“Everyone wanted him, there’s a reason for that and he showed it today. It feels like a smooth transition into the team.

“He’s a really good person which is another positive.”

Having scored 10 Premier League goals this season for Bournemouth, Seminyo’s first goal for City was as he ran onto Ryan East’s pass and slotted the ball under Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth.

In turn, he became the first player to score and assist a goal on his debut for City since Sergio Aguero against Swansea in August 2011.

This is a player to emulate, given the Argentine striker became City’s all-time top scorer during his decade with them, winning five Premier League titles, six League Cups and an FA Cup triumph in 2019.

Semenyu started in perfect fashion as the win over Exeter made it 12 games unbeaten in all competitions for City as they continue to fight on all fronts.

Three successive Premier League draws have left them six points behind leaders Arsenal, while their next game is the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Newcastle on Tuesday.

“The last three games we wanted, of course, to create opportunities to score more goals and win the game. This would have already created a different position in the league,” Lijnders said.

“But overall, I think we have a really special group. The number of experienced players leading the team, the way they mentor all the other players, the way the new players settle in and the energy. I’m not just talking about the games, but especially about the training. In the training center, it’s special and we’re on our way.”

“We are now in the League Cup semi-final, we go further here in the FA Cup and we are in a good position in the Champions League. We want to build on that.”
