The man who grabbed Ariana Grande at the red carpet premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore has been jailed for nine days.

According to BBC News, Australian citizen Johnson Wynne was convicted of being a public nuisance. Wen, 26, has a history of disrupting public events and rushing concert stages.

Video footage shows Wen jumping over a barrier at Universal Studios Singapore and running towards Grande on the red carpet on November 13. Grande’s co-star, Cynthia Erivo, immediately stepped in to help protect her and Wayne was removed.

The court heard that after security staff removed him, Wynn made a second attempt to jump the barricades, after which security staff stopped him and pinned him to the ground.

Wen posts regularly on Instagram under the name pajamamann, where he has posted snaps of his stage forays including those involving Katy Perry and the Weeknd. Footage of him approaching Grande led to significant backlash, with many commentators calling his actions a criminal offense.

Grande and her co-stars are on a massive promotional tour for the Wicked sequel, which will be released on November 21. The review embargo will be lifted on Tuesday, and early reactions point to the possibility of repeat Oscar nominations for the two stars.

Red carpet invasions have become increasingly uncommon as security has tightened over recent years. In 2007, podcaster Silke Siben strapped herself in front of Hugh Grant at the premiere of his romantic comedy Music and Lyrics. Firefighters later freed the couple.
