Manchester derby: What to expect when United and City go head-to-head in the Women’s Super League

It may be early in the season, but – with a host of teams at the top of the table – dropping points now could be crucial.

City surpassed Chelsea at the top last weekend with a narrow victory over Everton after the six-time defending champions drew 1-1 with Arsenal.

When asked about City’s place at the top of the table, Geiglertz praised his team but said they were well aware there was still a big chunk of season left to play.

“There is a very long time [to go]But at the same time we show that when we are at the highest peak, we are definitely a very, very good football team.”

Meanwhile, United failed to capitalize on Chelsea’s predicament as Mark Skinner’s side suffered their first defeat of the season – a 1-0 loss at home to Aston Villa.

A second successive league defeat is likely to be extremely damaging to the Red Devils’ title hopes, given that it means they already trail City by seven points.

With a place at the top of the table at stake, City would do well to remember the lessons learned from last season.

They failed to win a single game against teams who finished above them, and rivals United took advantage to beat them to third place – taking the final Champions League spot by one point.
