For the first time, Fletcher addressed Amorim’s criticism of United’s academy.
Aside from the fact that he has not started any academy-produced player in a Premier League match this season, Amorim has shown no sign of confidence in the players produced by the academy.
In addition, he angered United officials by criticizing Harry Abmas – whose loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday has ended – and striker Chido Obi.
Amorim also said he detected a sense of entitlement among United’s young players.
As someone the club has developed himself, who previously held the position of technical director and until this week was in charge of the team’s under-18 players, Fletcher has brought Kobe Maino and Shea Lacey to Turf Moor.
In only his second senior appearance, 18-year-old Lacey almost won the game with a curling shot from 20 yards that bounced off the crossbar.
“Historically, this club has been built around the academy,” Fletcher said. “Our record speaks for itself.
“We have some amazing talent and what I see is a lot of hardworking, humble, honest, coachable young players who are not perfect because they are young and learning.
“We ask a lot of young people in the community sometimes. We have to allow them to learn – educate them, help them and understand that they will make mistakes.
“With good guidance, we all play a role in their development into Manchester United players. We hope they can show themselves as well as Shea did.”
