Jonny Evans is set to return to Manchester United as assistant to interim coach Darren Fletcher.
Former Northern Ireland defender Evans was appointed last summer as head of loans and pathways at the club after calling time on his playing career.
While his departure from the role was announced last month, the 38-year-old is set to return to help Fletcher prepare United’s squad for Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Burnley following the departure of Ruben Amorim on Monday.
Fletcher is expected to remain in the role until an interim coach is appointed, with the club planning to name Amorim’s permanent successor in the summer.
After facing Burnley at Turf Moor, United host Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday and host rivals Manchester City on January 17.
Fletcher and Evans played together at Old Trafford for nine years before they both joined West Brom after leaving United in 2015.
Evans, who made 241 appearances for United, came through their academy and won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Club World Cup, an FA Cup and two League Cups with the club.
In addition to two spells at Old Trafford, Evans played in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City, and spent two loan spells at Sunderland.
He also played 107 international matches with the Northern Ireland national team.
