Manchester United: Rasmus Hoglund will play a star role like Scott McTominay?

Scott McTominay showed Manchester United what they wrongly ignored last season, and his new Napoli team-mate Rasmus Hoglund will follow suit this season, according to former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

The 22-year-old has scored four goals in six games for the Serie A leaders since his summer loan move, which includes a clause to make the deal permanent.

This number is the same number of goals he scored with United in the English Premier League the previous season.

Schmeichel, who won five Premier League titles at Old Trafford, remains puzzled by the decision to sell McTominay and questions the wisdom of parting ways with fellow Dane Hoglund and replacing him with Benjamin Sisko.

I’ve said this constantly for two and a half years, Rasmus Hoglund is going to be a striker who scores 25 goals a year for Manchester United, but he needs service.

“We let him look at the stats that he scored very few goals last season and bring in Cisco while we bring in Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbwemu, who will give Hoglund a first-class service.

“You’re spending over £70m on Cisco, when we don’t have the number six that we should have, and there’s the goalkeeping position as well.

“This season alone we’ve conceded nine goals from goalkeeping errors. When I played, when Edwin van der Sar played, when David de Gea played, the brief was to win 10 points a season, don’t drop points.
