Although there was an element of surprise when Jack Fletcher was named in Ruben Amorim’s squad for the trip to Tottenham in November, after Kobe Maino pulled out due to injury, he was next in line in terms of available midfielders.
Both Jack and Tyler have been central figures in Travis Bennion’s Under-21s side this season. While results against top sides in both the EFL Cup and National League Cup have not been exceptional this season, United’s under-21 side enter the second half of the EFL 2 season with an excellent record of seven wins and one defeat from eight matches. The Fletcher brothers are part of that.
Jack is seen as being a bit more advanced with his passing, and tends to play higher up the pitch. He has also featured at full-back on occasion, which could be an advantage when it comes to making matchday squads at senior level.
Both have been part of Manchester City’s academy at some point, and while Darren Fletcher is clearly a guiding light in their careers, he has been keen to let the pair make their own decisions regarding their playing journey – including which international team they want to represent.
Tyler is also good on the ball, but he has yet to score this season, which Jack has. However, he was also not sent off, which happened to Jack in the EFL Cup at Barnsley, when he objected to the refereeing decision in a way that the referee deemed unacceptable.
