✅ Here’s what you’ll learn:
England U18 international Benedetto Mantato made his Manchester United debut during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
Mantatu, 17, is the latest academy player to get minutes from Ruben Amorim this season, helped by United’s current injury problems and the loss of three players to their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The teenager has been at United since 2017, joining at the age of nine. Since then, he has continued to play for the club at all age groups, as well as playing for England from Under-15s to Under-18s.
Mantato, who is naturally a striker but has also featured as a full-back, replaced Manuel Ugarte for the final 15 minutes of the encounter against Wolves.
To date, Mantatu has made 50 appearances for United at Under-18 and Under-21 levels in their respective domestic leagues, as well as the EFL Cup, FA Youth Cup and National League Cup.
The versatile striker, who is of Angolan descent, made his first appearance on the United bench during the Europa League semi-finals last season. While he did not feature, Mantatu was an unused substitute in the two wins over Athletic Club.
Mantatu earned his Premier League debut earlier this month. He was on the bench for games against Aston Villa and Newcastle before making his debut against Wolves.
In the National League Cup, Mantatu scored against Solhull Moors last month, and also netted against Arsenal in United’s FA Youth Cup quarter-final win over Arsenal last season.
