MARK WILLIAMS: The snooker star occupies an all-time high profile in the world of Welsh sport

I think back to 2016 when he lost in the quarter-finals of the World Championship to Ding Junhui, and he (Williams) said to me afterwards: “This is probably the last chance I will have to win the World Championship.”

He stunned everyone two years later by winning the World Championship, and has since gone on to become among the best players in the world.

He’s one of the all-time greats, and the most amazing thing is his longevity.

He’s quite honest about this, he has problems with his eyesight, as far as being in a tall bowl.

I spoke to him in Llandudno last February and it was causing him a real problem.

But he’s got this natural ability. One of his great strengths is his temperament. He’s calm, and nothing seems to bother him.

He cares about winning, but will give the impression that he isn’t too bothered by losing.

I think the fact that he doesn’t get too down on himself when he loses or doesn’t play well has done him a world of good.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say he is one of the all-time greats of Welsh sport when you consider what he has achieved.
