Marvin Brown: The former Bristol City striker has died at the age of 42 from cancer

In the summer of 2024, he became joint-manager of Corsham Town FC, who also hailed Brown as an “instant favorite” among fans and staff – winning 10 games in a row after joining at a “very difficult time” for the club.

“[He] They added: “He would always stay back after the match to talk about life and football even at the end of his time with the club when he was ill.”

Having previously suffered from a number of serious health scares throughout his life, including a colon cancer diagnosis in 2022, Brown was unable to secure life insurance.

The fundraiser for his wife Alexis and two daughters raised more than £63,000 in donations.

A charity match will see Marvin Brown’s XI take on Bristol City XI at Bath City’s Twerton Park on November 9 to raise further funds.

One of those involved is Brown’s former Bristol City teammate Joe Purnell.

“I will remember him as a happy, funny, bright, caring and kind boy,” he told BBC Radio Bristol.

“[He was] A product of the academy, a lot of the boys who graduate are always very composed individuals and he was certainly one of those.

“He was a kind, contagious, smiling person, one of life’s good guys.”
