Masters Snooker Championship 2026: John Higgins defeats Judd Trump in thrilling match to reach the final

World number one John Higgins stunned Judd Trump as he came back from 3-0 and 5-3 down to win 6-5 and reach his first Masters final since 2021.

The Scot had lost his previous seven matches to the Englishman and appeared to be struggling as he made a series of errors in the first three frames.

However, Trump, whose highest break up to that point was just 60, failed to convert two good opportunities to take the fourth frame that offered Higgins a route back into contention.

As the momentum changed, Higgins (50 years old) also finished fifth, 104 points behind.

The Englishman pinch-hit frames six and eight with half-centuries after his opponent missed the red, but Higgins made a 57-run clearance in similar fashion to take frame seven.

Trump, 36, who has generally dominated meetings between the pair since winning the 2019 World Final, looked set for victory in the ninth frame but with just four balls to bowl, he noticeably missed a routine brown.

That gave Higgins the impetus to press breaks of 70 and 57 on his way to clearing three tense frames in a row to complete a remarkable turnaround and become the oldest player to reach the final of a Triple Crown event.

Kyren Wilson will face Wu Yizi from 19:00 GMT on Saturday for a place in Sunday’s final against Higgins.
