World number one Judd Trump moved into the quarter-finals of the Masters after making a three-century break in his 6-2 win over Ding Junhui at Alexandra Palace.

Trump, a two-time Masters champion, has won five straight matches against Deng, who won the title in 2011.

The Englishman made breaks of 116 and 69 to take a 3-0 lead before China’s Ding responded with breaks of 98 and 53 to reduce his arrears to the solitary frame.

However, Trump re-established a two-frame cushion with an 88 and then amassed an impressive 117 before sealing victory with a break of 109.

“I feel confident and I’ve been to some finals recently and it took some good players to stop me,” Trump told BBC Sport.

“I’m full of confidence and I hope I can do better in this tournament. I’ve spent a month out of tournaments but I’m still doing my best.”

Trump will face Mark Allen of Northern Ireland in the quarter-finals, and that match is scheduled to take place on Thursday at 19:00 GMT.

All seven matches played so far at this year’s Masters have finished 6-2, while Trump also defeated Deng by the same score at the UK Championship in December.

Trump said: “I convinced myself that my match would not be 6-2, and when I was ahead 3-0 I thought, at least I can’t lose 6-2.”

“It’s really unbelievable because all the players are so close together, and for every match to go this way is very surprising.”
